Welcome to The Family Resource Center!
The Family Resource, Inc., founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization providing shelter, education, and support services to adults and children who have experienced or been impacted by or exposed to domestic or sexual violence, abuse, or neglect. FRC is an established organization with programs that are comprehensive and multi-dimensional, targeting individuals, families, and the community. FRC programs include emergency shelter, Individual Supportive Counseling and Advocacy Program, 24-hour Crisis Hotline, Prevention Education Program, Community Awareness Program, and Volunteer Program. Our service area includes the counties of Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, Wythe, and the city of Galax.

Our Helpline is available 24-hours a day to provide support and information to victims of domestic and sexual violence as well as to their concerned family and friends. Callers can get information about our services, receive appropriate referrals, and most importantly, have a well-trained person to talk to about their domestic or sexual violence situation. Translators are available for our non-English speaking callers. Hearing impaired callers may contact us via TTY or through the Virginia Relay Service.
Domestic Violence Services
The Family Resource Center offers a variety of services to victims of domestic violence. Safety and protection from their abuser is often the most urgent concern of a domestic violence victim. We provide safe temporary shelter for those who need it as well as information, referrals, and advocacy for those who may need to seek a Protective Order or make other legal arrangements. Victims also need a variety of assistance in making important decisions and life changes. To help with this, we provide supportive counseling, referrals, safety planning, goal-setting, court and legal advocacy, and support groups.
Sexual Assault Services
The Sexual Assault program offers emotional support and advocacy to adult and child victims of sexual assault and their families. Information on the medical, legal, and psychological aspects of sexual assault are provided. Clients may be seen in area schools or in our offices in Wytheville, Galax, or Marion. Support groups are held throughout the year for sexual assault survivors. Crisis Advocate Companions are available 24 hours a day to accompany victims to the hospital.
